The Canadian brand is continuing its journey by unveiling its latest model, named Race Master, on the famous American crowdfunding platform. Since its birth in 2014, it is therefore the ninth passage of Ferro & Company on Kickstarter, knowing that the objective set has already been reached. Let’s take a closer look at this colorful new collection inspired by car racing in the middle of the last century.
A genesis on the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit
After the Distinct 3, which stood out with its large curved design case with its wired lugs and onion crown, Ferro & Company continues to draw inspiration from the automotive world, but this time with a more traditional approach. Thus, the dials of the Race Master collection are always so vintagebut the case sports a template more rooted in the current trend: 39mm in diameter. A most logical choice that sticks even better to the skin of this colorful series that will revive the nostalgia of 1960s-1970s races. Ferrari, Ford GT, McLaren, Porsche or even Aston Martin, each model pays homage to the prowess of classic cars that burned rubber on the asphalt of the Sarthe circuit for close friends.
An automatic series with 24-hour indicator
It is undoubtedly the model that interests us the most since we like to ride (watchmaking) mechanics. With kept proportions of 39mm in diameter for 42.50mm in length lug to lug as well as a 13.15mm thickness, this series of 5 watches ticks the right boxes. To confer a truly vintage look at the Race Master, Ferro & Company logically opted for a ultra-domed Hesalite glass made in Germany which also does not reflect light. Under the latter, there are highly colored dials with a 24-hour indicator at 9 o’clock as well as a date window positioned in an original way at 4-5 o’clock. Unsurprisingly, and fortunately moreover, the background is transparent in order to reveal the workings of a Japanese automatic movement, the Miyota 8217, cousin of the Emeritus 8215 whose durability is well established. Its oscillating weight is also the subject of a colored treatment to display shades of orange and black. And for those who like to change straps like shirts, its 20mm lug width will please you since it is the most standard size on the market. Liveries come with perforated italian leather straps mounted on a thick pin buckle. Their price fluctuates between $405 and $420 for a future list price of $575.
Bi-compax quartz chronographs
For many, racing rhymes with chronograph, so it was impossible for Ferro & Company not to offer this complication. To stick to his image of affordable brandthese models from the Race Master collection are equipped with a quartz movement also signed Miyota, more precisely the caliber 0S21, offering a 5 year battery life. In particular, this allows watches to display a tachymeter scale positioned on a pretty curved entirely photoluminescent white flange, but above all a bi-compax arrangement with counters dedicated to the 60-minute time totalization as well as a 24-hour counter. Exit the second hand that jumps to focus on what has the most charm. The only notable difference compared to the automatic model is its solid background adorned with a stamped illustration.
