Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari: a record of finesse

Let’s go back to a news that you have probably already heard about. A few days ago, Richard Mille unveiled a stunning novelty, the result of its partnership with the car manufacturer Ferrari. Focus on the news RM UP-01a real technical feat.

A historic partnership

The love story between Richard Mille and Ferrari has only just begun, as their partnership only started in 2021. But the thunderous release of this RM UP-01 is an essential step, the proof of a most effective association, thanks to a common vision served by know-how that is both common and complementary. Although it is a very small production, sold at an extremely high price, it is worth highlighting the performance that she represents.

Incredible proportions

Remember, last March, Bulgari seized the world record for the thinnest watch thanks to the Octo Finissimo Ultra and its 1.8mm thickness. It only took a few months for Richard Mille to steal the show from its competitor. But don’t get me wrong, the RM UP-01 is the result of many years of work, nearly 6,000 hours of research and development. The result: a timepiece of incredible finesse1.75mm weighing only 30 grams (wristband included).

Perfect symbiosis between movement and case

To achieve such a level of compactness, the movement gears have been integrated directly into the case and distributed over a large surface, allowing the hand-fitting not to overcome the rest of the caliber. The movement itself only measures 1.18mm thick, it is a caliber with manual winding displaying the traditional hours, minutes, seconds and equipped with a function selector (allowing you to switch from manual winding to time setting). Her ultra-flat exhaustdeveloped in collaboration with Audemars Piguet engineers, is the subject of a patent. Everything was mainly made from grade 5 titaniumcomposed of 90% titanium combined with 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium (increasing the strength of the alloy).

While Richard Mille announces that it has produced a “real” everyday watch here, as opposed to “concept watches”, whose technical prowess prevents real daily use, this RM UP-01 remains an inaccessible object for ordinary mortals. In fact, you would have to pay 1,850,000€ to acquire one of 150 copies products, probably all already reserved.
