Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer W10: two new dial colors

It is a brand that we particularly appreciate. Through its icon, the Khaki, the catalog of the American brand that has become Swiss is full of historical nuggets. To the delight of lovers of vintage watches, hamilton recently presented two new colors dial of his Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer W10.

W10: a historic watch

Remember, we announced its return at the very beginning of 2020, Hamilton will therefore have waited almost two years to come and decline this faithful reissue. The brand enjoys a unique connection to aviation which offers him innumerable possibilities; so many references to dust off, at a time when “heritage” models are very popular. The W10 was originally produced to equip the pilots of the Royal Air Force, commissioned by the British Ministry of Defence, between 1973 and 1976. A genuine endowment watch which, both in its history and in its design, will remind you of the famous Dirty Dozen. It is distinguished by its cousin shaped caseensuring a remarkable presence while displaying very contained proportions: 36mm in diameter for only 41.3mm of lug-to-lug distance. But the highlight of the show is in its dial.

Two new color variations

The dial of the W10 is a journey through time, which gives it all of its Field Watch identity! It is strewn with Arabic numerals supported by a railroad punctuated with luminescent geometric hour markers. All pointed out by long sword needles in steel, also covered with Super-LumiNova. Everything is topped with a ultra-domed hardened mineral glass provided with a double anti-reflection treatment. We would have preferred Plexiglas here, for more fidelity, or sapphire, even if it means modernizing as much as providing maximum resistance, but that is only a detail. These are therefore two new shades that brighten up the W10 reference, both available on NATO strap : the dial Navy blue is paired with a blue strap while the dial silver white is equipped with a gray frame.

A hand-wound mechanical movement

Under the hood of this Hamilton watch, we find the caliber H-50, which is almost no longer presented. It is a mechanical movement with manual winding, a logical choice which does not take the W10 far from its origins. It is designed from a ETA 2801-2 basis which sees its frequency reduced from 4 to 3 Hertz in order to offer a comfortable 80 hour power reserve. Unfortunately, you will not be able to observe its details, but its solid screwed back is faithful to the historical model and allows you to display a water resistance to 10 bar, quite comfortable for a vintage-inspired pilot watch! You will need to gather 845€ to acquire one of the new references of this duo. The good news ? No limited edition and immediate availability, so don’t hesitate!
