Hanhart Pioneer Mk I & Mk II: a new Reverse Panda dial

Recent news from Hanhart was very focused on the development of its icon: the famous 417 ES model. After a first successful return in 42mm, the German brand recently offered us a more historic reissue in 39mm. But the Hanhart collection is not limited to Steve McQueen’s watch, and it is full of nuggets inviting you to go back in time. Zoom on the Pioneer Mk I and Mk IInewly unveiled in Reverse Panda dial.

Pioneer Mk I & Mk II

The Pioneer collection is made up of most historic chronographs of Hanhart, all intimately linked to aviation. The Mk I and Mk II models go back to the very origins. They are directly inspired by 40 gaugewhich is none other than the very first precision chronograph manufactured by Hanhart in 1938. Their only difference lies in the push-buttons: the Mk I is a mono-pusher while the Mk II is adorned with the second. We find there one of the strong signatures of the brand: the red pusher, whose legend says that it would come from a varnish affixed by the wives of the pilots so that they think of them and return safe and sound. Other important details, they are enlivened by sumptuous cathedral needles and wearing a fluted bezel with red marker.

The “Reverse Panda” dial

Case and bracelet remain unchanged, and display an impressive level of finish for the price. This is the dial, the real novelty of the day. It is more precisely a bicompax with central chronograph hand, 30-minute counter on the right and offset seconds on the left. Usually offered with a black or white dial, the brand is now unveiling a reverse panda where the white counters contrast on a black background deep. Always no dateand no modification of the other details making up the dial.

A Swiss automatic movement

Unlike the 417 ES, the Pioneer Mk I and Mk II are powered by a self-winding movement. Hanhart is not a manufacture, but chooses its movements carefully. Our duo of the day is equipped with a caliber ETA 7753descendant of the famous 7750. A cam chronograph oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a standard power reserve of 42 hours. Count 2,090€ for the Mk I and 1,990€ for the Mk II, also note that these are not limited editions.
