Audemars Piguet Starwheel: the return of wandering time

On the occasion of Art Basel in Miami, one of the most famous art and design fairs in the world, Audemars Piguet has just unveiled a new reference…and it’s not a Royal Oak. Focus on the amazing star wheel and its display at wandering hour.

Code 11.59: a contemporary vision

The Code 11.59 collection has been around for only 3 years. Launched in 2019, it materializes Audemars Piguet’s desire not to be limited to its iconic Royal Oak designed by the late Gerald Genta. Subtle blend of tradition and innovationit is based on a classic watch to which the Brassus brand brings a contemporary visionunderlined by a bold case architecture.

A singular box construction

Indeed, the Code 11.59 collection can be recognized by its atypical housing built in two parts mixing two opposite shapes: the round and the octagon. Here, the octagonal heart of the case is in black ceramic and the envelope, whose openwork horns bring character, is in white gold. The whole is capped by a sapphire crystal domed with anti-reflective treatment.

Heure vagabonde: a surprising and historic complication

Let’s go back a few years to the origins ofwandering hour. Created in the 17th century, at the request of Pope Alexander VII, this complication displays the time thanks to three rotating discs on themselves and along a minute scale arranged in an arc of a circle on the upper part of the dial. A mixture of technical challenge and continuous movement, it was revisited by Audemars Piguet in 1991. Here it is enhanced by a blue aventurine dial supporting the three opaline black aluminum discs. These are powered by a in-house automatic movement appointed caliber 4310, directly inspired by 4309 to which a module has been added. Besides its unique display, it includes 224 components and offers a comfortable 70 hour power reserve. But the show has a price: you will have to gather 57,100€ to acquire this sumptuous Starwheel.
