After the new 41mm and 34mm Conquest models, Longines is now treating us to another eagerly-awaited release: the Spirit Zulu Time in 39mm. The GMT aviateur from Longines offers a new templatea more restrained size that will delight those who prefer more reasonable diameters, as well as smaller wrists. Near-perfect new dimensions

There’s no doubt that the Spirit Zulu Time 42mm is an excellent watch. But its generous dimensions put many people off, and many were hoping for a more contained diameter to take the plunge. Now it’s done! Longines is now offering its GMT in a new case, with almost perfect dimensions : 39mm diameter, 47mm from horn to hornand 13.5mm thick. Only the 21mm lugs will raise eyebrows, limiting bracelet options. For the rest, this 39mm version has the same face as its big sister: a sapphire crystal, a ceramic 24H bidirectional bezelapplied Arabic numerals accompanied by small diamond hour-markers echoing the tip of the second hand, a date at 6 o’clock, and 5 stars just above. And the little extra detail: the words ” zulu time “written in the same color as theGMT handfor all versions. L’100m waterproofing is secured by a screw-down crown, while the back of the case features a superb engraving, recalling the watch’s affiliation with the brand’s aeronautical history. A COSC-certified GMT movement

On the mechanical side, the Spirit Zulu Time 39mm is powered by the caliber L844.4 a “real” movement GMT with 4th independent hand, based on an ETA A31.L01. This movement features 21 jewels, oscillates at 25,200 vibrations per hour (i.e. 3.5Hz), and delivers 72 hours of power reserve. In addition, it benefits from a excellent resistance to magnetic fields thanks to a silicone balance spring. Last but not least, this L844.4 caliber is chronometer” certified by the COSCfor a guaranteed precision of -4/+6 sec per day.

A GMT with everything to please

The Longines Spirit Zulu Time 39mm has really many advantages small dimensions, aviator style, GMT complication, historical legitimacy, high-performance movement… all for a price ranging from 3,250€ for steel versions with leather strap up to €4,600 for the steel/gold version. A price that places it in direct competition with the benchmarks in this field: the Tudor Black Bay GMT and Black Bay Pro. The Longines, however, has a much more affordable price tag and is much thinner.
