Longines unveils the Spirit Zulu Time

We told you about its little sister a few months ago, the charming and light Spirit Titanium. We suspected that Longines would not stop on such a good path, and it is done. The Spirit collection, subtly blending vintage and aviation, develops through a completely new line. Zoom on the Longines Spirit GMT Zulu Time.

Longines, pioneer of the double time zone

Longines has been making watches for almost 190 years now, without ever having left the village of Saint Imier, near La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1908, she will be the very first watchmaker to produce a pocket watch capable of displaying two time zones simultaneously. A pioneer in the field, the winged hourglass brand was therefore very quickly associated with the field of aviation and supported many great feats such as that of Clyde Pangborn and Hugh Herndon in October 1931. It was the very first transpacific flight without stopover, from Japan to the United States. A journey of 8850 kilometers achieved in 41 hours of flight. Longines celebrates this rich heritage today by enhancing the Spirit collection with a GMT line.

A neat aesthetic

This new Spirit has a stainless steel case of 42mm in diameter for 13.9mm thick. Its solid case back and its crown, both screwed down, allow it to display a 10 bar resistance. It is topped with a steel bezel with ceramic insertgraduated over 24 hours for reading the second time zone, then a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. Its dial is strewn with applied Arabic numerals, subtly associated with hollowed diamond hour markers, all covered Super Luminova. The result: an ultra-readable tool watch with an extremely meticulous finish.

6 variations of the Zulu Time

On the menu, 6 variations are offered. More precisely 3 color codesavailable on steel or on leather. You can also switch from one to the other very easily, thanks to an ingenious quick-change system. The reference L3.812.4.93 is adorned with a blue bezel and dial, enhanced by white Arabic numerals and a red GMT hand tip, the sportiest of the 3 versions. Reference L3.812.4.63, for its part, combines a green bezel and a black dial and gilt, for a very warm and resolutely vintage result. Finally, the reference L3.812.4.53 displays a black bezel and dialwith white Arabic numerals and blue GMT tip, for a more sober version.

A COSC-certified automatic GMT movement

On the mechanical side, the Spirit Zulu Time is equipped with the L844.4 mechanism, an all-new caliber developed on a ETA base A31.L01. As you will have understood, it is a GMT movement, also embellished with a date function placed at 6 o’clock. It has a silicon hairspring and beats at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hourwhile offering a very comfortable 72-hour power reserve, i.e. 3 days of autonomy. In terms of precision, this movement is chronometer-certified by the prestigious COSC for a tolerance of -4/+6 seconds per day.

In conclusion, this new GMT line complements in a very beautiful way the Spirit collection that we already particularly appreciate. It is a watch that represents a true encounter between history, heritage, innovation and aesthetics. Available now, the leather versions are displayed at 2,780€ against 2,880€ for those with steel bracelets.
