Get Crypto Data With 3 Websites

This article is about 3 of my favourite crypto data platforms to get the best information before investing in crypto. Let’s jump in!

Ledger Wallet

1. A platform for general crypto data: Messari

Messari is a cryptocurrency analytics company that provides a market intelligence platform for the crypto industry. Messari brings transparency to the crypto economy. They help investors, regulators, and the public make sense of this revolutionary new asset class, and are building data tools that will drive informed decision making and investment. They believe that crypto will democratize access to information, break down data silos, and ultimately give everyone the tools to build wealth.

I personally like using Messari for all the charts available, even with the free version.

You can pick your asset in the search bar, for example Cardano:

The chart section is great and an example of chart I like is the active addresses displayed with the price on the same graph:

I usually use it to spot undervaluation. When the price drastically falls but the number of wallets stays stable:

2. A platform for on-chain crypto data: Glassnode

Glassnode is a blockchain data and intelligence provider that generates innovative on-chain metrics and tools for digital asset stakeholders. Blockchains are constantly generating a wealth of open, incorruptible financial data that allows us to access precise, trustworthy measures of relevant economic activity in crypto networks.

I like using Glassnode for on-chain charts and download the data for personal analysis/coding.

One example of chart that I like to look at is the number of new addresses (different from total addresses) for a given token. Here for Ethereum, you can see that the adoption is still on-going with new created addresses globally on the rise (in blue):

At the bottom of the page, you have the option to download the data which is handy:

It’s what I’ve used to build this Bitcoin predictive model last year.

3. An API for more advanced use cases: the CoinMarketCap API:

CoinMarketCap is the world’s most-referenced price-tracking website for cryptoassets in the rapidly growing cryptocurrency space. Its mission is to make crypto discoverable and efficient globally by empowering retail users with unbiased, high quality and accurate information for drawing their own informed conclusions. Founded by Brandon Chez in May 2013, CoinMarketCap has quickly grown to become the most trusted source by users, institutions, and media for comparing thousands of cryptoassets and is commonly cited by CNBC, Bloomberg, and other major news outlets. (Even the U.S. government uses CoinMarketCap’s data for research and reports!)

Everybody knows the CoinMarketCap website but less people are aware of their API. I like to use it for more advanced modelling use cases:

You can make a couple of calls for free with it:

Like the very latest statistics about a given blockchain, see example for BTC:

4. Conclusion

3 tools that are very important to get the right data before investing. I aways have a look at the 3 of them before reviewing a token or building a model: Messari for an overview, Glassnode for on-chain and CoinMarketCap API to build more complex models. I hope that was useful!

Let me know what you think. Until then… Take care, Clem
